With London Fashion Week fast approaching, the British
Fashion Council have divulged us with their list of winning NEWGEN for
spring/summer 2015 sponsorship. Amongst
the ambitious recipients is womenswear designer Paula Gerbase, founder of the
brand ‘1205’. For those of you who yearn over clean cut, androgynous minimalism,
look no further.1205’s aesthetics
accentuate unisex styling with strong, tailored masculine cuts, used with
feminine fabrics in a soulful monochrome palette of greys, whites, blacks and
blues. Gerbase’s fine art tailoring and desire for unity between masculinity
and femininity may have been inspired by her previous five year role as Head
Designer for Savile Row tailor Kilgour, who is renowned for bespoke suits with
inimitable quality.
'To me masculinity is about attention to construction, how a shoulder is put together or the type of canvas I am using. The feminine aspect can be about a contrast of textures. Texture is very sensual I think. It's this interpretation of unisex that I like to explore.'
Luxurious boiler suits, crisp white shirt dresses, tailored jackets and the finest of knits all disguise any trace of the feminine shape, whilst the males don fine tailored suits, heavy wool coats and patent brogues, all of which make a seamless transition on to the female form. 1205 is undeniably a brand I will be lusting over on future catwalks.
